How it Started

In 1985, 22-year-old Mark Hewitt started his own logging business, primarily harvesting farm woodlots and processing the logs into farm fencing posts.  In 1991 Mt Pokaka was established as a tanalising plant, with a sawmill added soon after in 1995.

Over three decades later, Mark and his wife George still own and run the business, which today processes around 140 000 tonnes of logs annually and employs over 100 staff and full-time contractors.

Mt Pokaka Timber Products supplies all the major timber and hardware merchants nationwide.  Our focus is on efficiency and working alongside our customers to provide great service, quality products and competitive prices.

With the winds of change blowing through the saw-milling industry and identifying the need to add value to Northlands timber resource, Mt Pokaka has recently invested in new laminating technology, bringing to the marketplace a range of Cross-Laminated Timber (CLT) products under the LAMINATA brand.
